The Hamees is one of the largest and best-equipped ships on the Nile, and the 2018 refurbishment brought it properly up to date. It suits travellers who want hotel-grade facilities on the water and are comfortable with a big-ship experience — a full spa, a substantial sun deck, and a dining operation that can handle a lot of people without feeling rushed.
It is not the ship to book if you are hoping the Nile will feel remote.
Within the same fleet, Sun Ray is the more traditionally grand and Royal Lily the more suite-focused, with private jacuzzi bathtubs in its Royal Suites. Outside it, Iberotel Crown Empress is the nearest match on scale.
Large ships dock at the main quays in Luxor and Aswan, which is convenient for walking into town and less good for photographs — during busy weeks vessels moor two and three abreast. If an uninterrupted river view from your cabin matters, ask about the mooring arrangement for your dates rather than assuming it.
