Seven days is enough to see Egypt’s essential circuit without rushing every stop into a blur. This itinerary covers Cairo and a compressed taste of the Nile Valley — the version most first-time visitors actually book.
Day one: the Grand Egyptian Museum and the Pyramids of Giza, ideally in that order so the museum’s context makes the pyramids land harder. Day two: Islamic Cairo, Khan el-Khalili, and the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir if you want the older collection too.
A short domestic flight gets you to Luxor by mid-morning. Spend the afternoon at Karnak Temple — give it real time, not a rushed hour.
Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut’s Temple, and the Colossi of Memnon. An optional early hot air balloon ride is the single most-requested add-on for this day.
A short 2-night Nile cruise (or a private drive with stops) takes you past Edfu and Kom Ombo on the way to Aswan — the classic temple-hopping stretch of the trip.
The Luxor–Aswan stretch is where the trip stops feeling like a checklist and starts feeling like Egypt.
An early flight to Abu Simbel (about 45 minutes each way) fits before an afternoon flight back to Cairo or onward home. Philae Temple is a good alternative if Abu Simbel’s early start doesn’t suit your schedule.
The Red Sea, Alexandria, and the Western Desert all fall outside a 7-day window — each is worth its own dedicated trip rather than a rushed add-on.
